Hotspots are used to obtain internet access. The District has hotspots available for families without internet access. A list of community resources for low cost and free internet access can be found below.
Fill out this form to request a hotspot. You only need to fill out the form once with your oldest student's school, grade, and name. Someone from your student's school will contact you.
These devices are intended for families who do not have internet access and cannot afford internet access. Only one per household and it will be checked out to the oldest student in the family.
WiFi Hotspot on your Smartphone
Depending on your carrier and plan, you may be able to setup a wifi hotspot from your mobile device. Below are the instructions to set up wifi using Android or Apple products.
This method uses your personal smartphone and existing data connection, if you have one. Some phone companies have raised or eliminated data limits. Please verify with your carrier if unsure before using a mobile device to set a wifi hotspot.
Free Internet Options for the Twin Cities
- City of Minneapolis Public Wifi
The City of Minneapolis has an outdoor wireless network that covers nearly 100% of the city. Look for the “City of Minneapolis Public WiFi” or “USI Wireless” networks on your mobile device and you will be connected. The process is similar to using Wi-Fi at a coffee shop or the airport. You need to be within 50 feet of the hotspots or the open public WiFi nodes. Signal strength varies indoors. - Xfinity Wifi
Everyone can now access 1.5 million out-of-home Xfinity WiFi hotspots for free: These hotspots are normally located in business areas, retail locations and transit areas. To find your nearest hotspot, search your zipcode at the link.

To receive technology and services from PCs for People, a potential recipient must be below the 200% poverty level or be currently enrolled in an income-based government assistance program. - Comcast: Internet Essentials
$9.95 per month +tax. You may qualify if you are eligible for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, and others. - Spectrum: Internet Assist
Eligible low-income households can receive discounted 30 Mbps high-speed internet, along with Security Suite and an internet modem, at no additional charge. One or more members of your household must be a recipient of one of the following assistance programs: National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the NSLP, Supplemental Security Income (for applicants age 65+ only)
